If you've written a book-length work that you believe has real intellectual or literary merit, then you've come to the right place.
Online Originals publishes literary fiction and intellectual non-fiction for the general reader, especially works that represent an ‘original’ voice. Our works are also ‘original’ in the sense that they have not been produced before in any form, not even on the Internet. Please note that we do not publish poetry collections (although we do poetic prose and epic-length poems), picture books for children or adults, personal histories, science fiction, fantasy, erotica, how-to guides, self-help, reference works, or academic secondary source material (e.g. studies of other writers).
Our unique approach to submissions represents a sustainable way forward for publishing as a cultural, rather than commercial, pursuit. In brief, the literary judgement of new manuscripts is under the control of existing Online Originals authors. First a submitter briefly proposes a new manuscript to an existing Online Originals author (who is currently doing reviews). If the author is willing to proceed, the submitter formats the manuscript in compliance with our formatting rules, and pays the author by credit card £60 (about $100 or €60) to read the manuscript, write a one-page critical review, and rate (1 to 10) how ‘publishable’ it is. The submitters can send their manuscripts to as many Online Originals authors as they wish. If two authors rate the manuscript 9 or 10, a publishing contract is issued to the submitter. There is then no subsequent cost to the submitter; the manuscript is edited, formatted, produced and posted on the website at Online Originals' expense.
This approach to submissions works well for several reasons. First, because Online Originals authors wish to protect the brand that publishes them, they apply the highest standards when judging new submissions. Secondly, the submitter is more in control of the review process: able to select reviewers (based on what they write) and to manage the pace of reviews. Thirdly, since reviews are paid for, submitters can expect to receive a helpful critical commentary instead of a mere acceptance or rejection, whilst authors can supplement their royalties by doing reviews.
If you are interested in having your book-length manuscript published by Online Originals, please first read and apply our manuscript formatting rules to your manuscript and then propose the manuscript for review. |
